This is the 2 vs. 15 match for the Slasher Region and a rematch of one of the most controversial matches we have ever had.
The home-field goes to the 15 seed Blob.
The fight will take place in the town of Downingtown, Pennsylvania just outside the movie theater (Seen in The Blob's first video clip).

  1. Blob wins 10-0. This time there is no controversy.

  2. This fight raises a number of issues that we have discussed before but need to be very clear about here. For example, I need to know a) how the Blob was killed in the movie(s) and b) what other possible ways it might be defeated. When these two fighters met last time, some people strongly disagreed with my position that the Queen Alien would rip up the Blob sufficiently so as to qualify for a victory. If my memory is correct, the Blob also lost to the Mummy by falling into a precipice in the pyramid. If anyone still thinks that it is not valid to say that the Queen Alien could defeat the Blob by slashing it to pieces, then you need to specify at least a couple other ways that the Blob might be defeated by anyone else.

Second, there are some smaller issues. How big is the Blob when it enters the fight? The size of a baseball or a movie theatre? This makes a difference! Also, how sticky is the Blob? If I were to touch it with my hand, could I take my hand back? I think it's pointless to say that the Blob is so sticky that even the shortest touch binds an opponent permanently. If this is true, then I might as well submit my vote for the Blob winning the whole tournament. If you can't touch it, how can you kill it?

I'm also curious to know whether or not any of you think that the Alien's acid saliva and blood would have an affect on the Blob. My opinion is that they would, and a significant affect at that. If the Blob were small enough, I can easily imagine the Queen slashing it up a bit (without being permanently stuck to it) and then dissolving it with some acid to finish it off. Remember, the Queen is pretty smart and I don't see it charging in recklessly against this red goopy Blob. (Aliens nerds: didn't she intentionally cut herself to produce acid blood as a weapon in one of the movies?). Also, the Queen is fast as hell and isn't really in danger of being caught by the Blob (I'm assuming that the Queen Alien comes from the most recent installment in clip 2).

So, as of now, I am not submitting a final decision. However, I am leaning strongly in favor of the Queen (in line with my previous position). But, given the magnitude of this match, its history, and the potential for emotions to run high, we need to handle this match carefully. Therefore, I offer this post as an introduction to some matters we might consider in deciding the fight. To recap, I would like to hear your thoughts on these questions:

    1. How was the Blob killed and how might it be defeated in this tournament (even if not by the Queen Alien in this match)?

    2. How big is the Blob when it enters the fight?

    3. How sticky is the Blob?

Bonus Question: Do any of our fighters in the tournament have memory of their previous fights in previous tournaments? For example, is there a chance that the Queen will "recognize" the Blob from its previous encounter? Or do we just say it's all starting from scratch?

  3. Hammurabi has brought up some good questions/concerns that should be discussed.

Regarding the size of the Blob, I would say 4ft by 4ft maybe slightly bigger would be an appropriate size but definitely not movie theater size.

Here is a clip to show how sticky the Blob is.

Now obviously the Blob is pretty darn sticky but I don't think it would be impossible for someone to physically rip him off.

As for whether or not fighters have memories of past tournament fights I would say yes but only for rematches.

Now here is my take on the fight.

I see the Queen Alien slowly circling around the Blob while thinking of a plan of attack but not getting too close to him. After a long standoff the Queen will finally have no choice to attack. I see her ferociously clawing and slashing with with her tail at the Blob which will rip him apart leaving him in many pieces but the Blob will slowly reform just quick enough to avoid a TKO. The Queen will go in for a second attack but this time the Blob will grab hold of her. The Blob will continue to spread and engulf the Queen but will have a hard time absorbing her because of her incredibly tough exoskeleton. The Queen will be desperately trying to get him off of her with vicious claw attacks which will end up cutting through her own skin and spilling her acid blood all over the Blob. the acid will instantly eat away the Blob who will be forced to release himself from her body and retreat in an attempt to recover and heal. He won't be able to get too far though because of his lack of speed and because of how severely damaged he is. The Queen will inflict another wound to herself spilling even more acid all over the Blob melting him even more. Eventually, the acid will almost completely eat away the Blob who will no longer be able to continue the fight.

I remember I was favoring the Blob in their previous match but this time around I see the Queen Alien coming out the victor.

So my final verdict is the Queen Alien 6-4.

  4. I'd say that giving the Blob about a 4-6ft-size diameter is a pretty fair assumption.

Dino, I agree on the point you make about fighters having a recollection of past fights when it comes to "rematches" only.

I don't see the Queen Alien immediately attacking the Blob; she will circle the Blob and eventually try stabbing him with her tail. It will take some time before the Blob finally grabs ahold of her tail and tries to slowly absorb her. At this point, the Queen will flail all over the place until she realizes she has to claw at her tail to release the persistent Blob. As Dino pointed out, the Queen will puncture her endoskeleton and release her acid blood, which will be the one if not only weapon any monster in this tournament has that can severely effect and inflict serious damage on the Blob. Once the Blob has surrendered his hold on the Queen, he will slowly try slipping away into the theater to avoid any more damage from the Queen's acid blood. At which point, I see the Queen slowly inching towards the Blob and using her wounded tail to more drip acid on top of the Blob and render him useless until he becomes corroded by the acid and can no longer move.

I can see how we considered this fight to be so close the first time around, while so controversial at the same time. However, I think we gave the Blob too much credit and I see the Queen having the overall upper hand because of her acid blood, which I believe is the determining factor in this fight.

    Queen Alien 7-3.
